A complexity measure for families of binary sequences
نویسندگان
چکیده
In earlier papers finite pseudorandom binary sequences were studied, quantitative measures of pseudorandomness of them were introduced and studied, and large families of “good” pseudorandom sequences were constructed. In certain applications (cryptography) it is not enough to know that a family of “good” pseudorandom binary sequences is large, it is a more important property if it has a “rich”, “complex” structure. Correspondingly, the notion of “f–complexity” of a family of binary sequences is introduced. It is shown that the family of “good” pseudorandom binary sequences constructed earlier is also of high f–complexity. Finally, the cardinality of the smallest family achieving a prescibed f–complexity and multiplicity is estimated. * Research partially supported by Hungarian National Foundation for Scientific Research, Grant No. T029759 and MKM fund FKFP–0139/1997. 1991 AMS Mathematics Subject Classification number: primary 11K45, secondary 94A60, 68Q25 List of key words and phrases: pseudorandom, complexity, binary sequence, specification, Legendre symbol, covering hypergraphs. 1

The cross-correlation measure for families of binary sequences
Large families of binary sequences of the same length are considered and a new measure, the cross-correlation measure of order k is introduced to study the connection between the sequences belonging to the family. It is shown that this new measure is related to certain other important properties of families of binary sequences. Then the size of the cross-correlation measure is studied. Finally,...
متن کاملSequences related to Legendre/Jacobi sequences
Two families of binary sequences are constructed from dth order cyclotomic generator and from dth order generalized cyclotomic generator with respect to two distinct primes respectively. By using estimates of certain exponential sums over rings or fields, the upper bounds of both the well-distribution measure and the order k (at least for small k) correlation measure of the resulting binary seq...
متن کاملOn the complexity of a family based on irreducible polynomials
Ahlswede, Khachatrian, Mauduit and Sárközy [1] introduced the f -complexity measure (“f ” for family) in order to study pseudorandom properties of large families of binary sequences. So far several families have been studied by this measure. In the present paper I considerably improve on my earlier result in [7], where the f -complexity measure of a family based on the Legendre symbol and polyn...
متن کاملLarge Families of Pseudorandom Sequences of k Symbols and Their Complexity - Part I
In earlier papers we introduced the measures of pseudorandomness of finite binary sequences [13], introduced the notion of f–complexity of families of binary sequences, constructed large families of binary sequences with strong PR (= pseudorandom) properties [6], [12], and we showed that one of the earlier constructions can be modified to obtain families with high f–complexity [4]. In another p...
متن کامل'Good' Pseudo-Random Binary Sequences from Elliptic Curves
Some families of binary sequences are constructed from elliptic curves. Such sequences are shown to be of strong pseudorandom properties with ‘small’ well-distribution measure and ‘small’ correlation measure of ‘small’ order, both of which were introduced by Mauduit and Sárközy to analyze the pseudo-randomness of binary sequences.
